Rules and Expectations for Parents, Chaperones, and Other Adults involved with students at Oregon Model United Nations:
school districts:
Each individual interacting with students at Oregon Model United Nations is expected to follow the rules, regulations, and expectations from the school districts they are from while at the conference.
University of Oregon:
In addition to the individual school districts, the University of Oregon has their own Rules and Expectations for Parents, Chaperones, and Adults interacting with students. They have provided their Chaperone Guide below:
Chaperone Guide
In support of the University’s Protection of Minors and Reporting of Child Abuse Policy, we recommend that minors remain with their supervising adult or group at all times while on campus, unless a parent or guardian has given written permission for the minor to be unsupervised.
While we strongly encourage the below safety practices, supervision of minors during the visit remains the responsibility of the visiting group or parent/guardian.
Chaperone Guidelines
Adults and minors must conduct themselves respectfully and comply with campus rules and policies during the visit.
Supervising adults should endeavor to avoid one-on-one contact with minors.
Supervising adults should have a plan for verifying that all their students are present and accounted for after each session transition. Groups should establish clear meeting points, check‐in expectations, and accountability methods (e.g., head counts).
Please ensure students remain with their supervising adult and group during the visit, as there are often several events on campus with many non-UO visitors.
If a minor will have unsupervised time during your visit, this must be supported by documented permission from the parent or guardian. It is the responsibility of the visiting group to obtain and manage this documentation and to ensure that it aligns with their own school, district, or organizational policies.
Groups/supervising adults are encouraged to sign up for University of Oregon Alerts. UO Alerts are sent when there is an imminent threat to health and/or safety to the campus community. https://safety.uoregon.edu/alerts.
To sign-up to receive Alerts texts, text one of the campus codes to 333111.
Campus codes are:
UOEUG - (This is U of O campus where OMUN is held)
UOPDX
UOOIMB
To receive Summer only alerts for the Eugene campus, use code UOSummer. If you sign up via text, messages can be stopped anytime by texting STOP to 333111.
Guide their students to be attentive and respectful to all speakers and other students (disruptive students should be removed from the session, if the behavior is not corrected).
Encourage your students to ask questions and take full advantage of this opportunity.
Discourage distractions such as cell phones, iPods, and conversations during presentations.

All adults interacting with students should read the Rules and Expectations page on this site as well as the By-Laws and Constitution found at the end of that page and to make sure this information is communicated regularly to students before and during the conference.
While the Rules and Expectations page is guided towards students it should also provide insight into interactions between everyone attending the conference.
If there are concerns or questions please reach out to the adult staff for the conference. Our information can be found on the contact page. During the conference we can also be found in the OPI room during conference hours.
