Meet your Secretariat

Maya Bedge, Secretary-General

Maya Bedge is a senior at Westview High School and this is her fourth year in MUN. After serving as an Undersecretary for the 2018 conference, a delegate for the Netherlands in the Human Rights committee, and a delegate for Botswana in the Environment committee, she is ecstatic to serve the Oregon MUN community as the Secretary General. In addition to MUN, Maya is an active member of her school’s speech and debate team, and also serves on the City of Beaverton’s Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board. Moreover, her passion for service and promoting youth civic engagement is exemplified through her leadership on a local Portland nonprofit serving illiterate youth across the world. If you don’t find her working hard to prepare for this year’s MUN conference, you’ll see her performing on her harp, spending way too much time at Powell’s, or going on long hikes with friends.

Chuck lu, Vice-President

Neeta is a senior at Lake Oswego High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Chuck Lu is a senior at good ol’ Lake Oswego High School and is thrilled to be taking part in MUN for his fourth year. In the past, he has served as a delegate in the Global Security and Global Economy committees as well as on the Secretariat last year. Empowered by the wonderful experience of being a delegate, he is delighted to effect even greater opportunities for future MUN delegates. In the rare occasion he can tear himself away from the engaging studies of global politics, Chuck enjoys playing basketball and competing in robotics competitions. You may also find him competing in debate, Science Bowl, and entrepreneurship. (In the case you do find him, go say hi; I promise he doesn’t bite.) Those rare moments of leisure may place him exploring the Pacific Northwest, pranking Undersecretary Di Re, or out spreading good vibes.

shawna muckle, Vice-President

Zach is a senior at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Shawna Muckle is a junior at Jesuit High School and this is her third year participating in MUN. Previously, she served as a delegate for Ukraine in Environment and a delegate for the U.K. in the General Assembly. Outside of MUN, Shawna is an involved member of her school’s ethics bowl and mock trial teams, a central committee member of the Washington County Democrats, and an editor for her school’s newspaper, The Jesuit Chronicle. For fun, Shawna can be found drinking gallons of water, watching C-SPAN, and hanging out with her alpaca, Ted. Thanks to her formative experiences as a MUN delegate, Shawna is incredibly passionate about geopolitical politics and hopes to use that passion to make the conference the best it can be alongside her fellow delegates

elaine yang, Undersecretary

Aman is a junior at Westview High School in Portland, Oregon.

Elaine Yang is a senior at Sunset High School and is very enthusiastic about spending her 3rd and final year of MUN as Undersecretary with the other Secretariat members. She served her first year of MUN as a delegate in Economics and her second year as a committee chair for General Assembly, and her passion for MUN has grown exponentially throughout the years. Outside of MUN, Elaine serves on Sunset’s NHS board, struggles in her classes, and participates in various STEM competitions. In her little amount of free time, she enjoys playing with her dog and pouring her milk before her cereal. Elaine hopes to make a lasting impact on Oregon MUN members and wishes everyone an amazing 2018-19 year.

akash bindal, Undersecretary

Anthony is a senior at Westview High School in Portland, Oregon.

Akash Bindal is a junior at Jesuit High School and this is his third year in MUN. He is looking forward to serving Oregon’s MUN as an Undersecretary, after having served as a delegate for Ukraine on the Health and Human Services Committee and for the United Kingdom in the Security Council. His love for learning about how the world can become a better place drives him to take deliberate action through the non-profit, AkashVaani Foundation. If Akash isn’t preparing for the MUN conference, he is most likely on a long, training run with his teammates, in the midst of a deep tabla playing session, or reading up on interesting scientific discoveries like Wharton’s Jelly.

caitlyn aldersea, Undersecretary

Chloe is a senior at Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Oregon.

Caitlyn Aldersea is a senior at Lincoln High School and is in her third year of MUN. Throughout her time as a delegate, she has served on the Health and Human Services committee as Russia and Global Security as Belgium. Caitlyn is the president of Lincoln’s MUN program, and has successfully rebuilt the club after its failure to attend the 2017 state conference.

When not focusing on MUN, Caitlyn also serves as ASB co-president, student co-chair for Lincoln’s 150 committee, 4 year member of Lincoln’s Leadership team, and Executive Cardinal Mentor. If you can’t find her serving her community or stressing over IB classes, you can probably catch Caitlyn on a long run somewhere training for her marathon.

enrique flores, UNDERSECRETARY

Johnson is a junior at Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon.

Enrique Flores is a Junior at South Salem High School. After founding a Model United Nations chapter at his high school this past year, he participated in his first Model United Nations conference and served as the delegate of Iceland in the Human Rights Committee. Although he has only been a part of MUN for a short amount of time, he hopes to make a positive impact on next year’s Model United Nations conference. His primary goal this year will be to reach out to smaller schools, to overall grow Model United Nations across Oregon. Aside from MUN, Enrique enjoys swimming, playing his violin, and watching netflix. He hopes to make this year’s Model United Nations conference the best it can be and is excited to work with so many great leaders across the state of Oregon.

Julliana is a senior at Lake Oswego High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Peter is a senior at Lake Oswego High School, and this will be his fourth year of MUN. As a member of the Global Security and General Assembly committees, he earned a “Best Consensus Builder” award. Peter strives to make his high school the best that it can be and is excited to do the same for Oregon MUN. He has served as his class’s VP, a student advisor to Lake Oswego’s superintendent, a varsity member of the tennis team, an active volunteer, and the president of his school’s chapter of National Honor Society. Peter’s interest in studying languages and cultures attests to his passion for foreign relations and politics. In his spare time, he hangs out with his brothers, relaxes with music and a book, or enjoys the Oregon outdoors.
